Glenn Leroy Archer, Jr. was a federal judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He joined the court in 1985 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan.[1] He served the court until his death on July 27, 2011.[2]

Education

Archer graduated from Yale University with his undergraduate degree in 1951 and later graduating from George Washington University Law School with his J.D. in 1954. Archer served in the U.S. Air Force JAG Corps from 1954 to 1956.[1]

Career

Archer began his legal career as a private practice attorney in Washington, DC from 1956 to 1981 and was assistant U.S. attorney general serving the Tax Division from 1981 to 1985.[1]

Federal judicial career

Archer was nominated by Ronald Reagan on October 16, 1985, to a seat vacated by Judge Jack Miller as Miller assumed senior status. Archer was confirmed by the Senate on December 16, 1985, and received commission on December 17, 1985.[1] Archer has served as the chief judge of the Federal Circuit from 1994 to 1997 before assuming senior status on December 24, 1997. He continued serving in that capacity until his death in 2011.[1]
