Frank Zapata is a federal judge on senior status for the United States District Court for the District of Arizona. He joined the court in 1996 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton. Zapata assumed senior status on August 3, 2010.[1]
Early life and education
A native Arizonan, Zapata graduated from Eastern Arizona College with his bachelor's degree in 1964 and later graduated from the University of Arizona with his bachelor's degree in 1966 and J.D. degree in 1973.
Professional career
Zapata began his legal career as a Staff Attorney in the Pima County Legal Aid Society assisting low income clients from 1973 to 1974. Zapta also decided to spend the rest of his legal career helping those who could not afford legal representation as a Assistant federal public defender for the United States District Court for the District of Arizona from 1974 to 1984 and then was promoted to Chief Federal Deputy Public Defender for the District of Arizona from 1984 to 1994. From 1988 to 1990, Zapata also served as the Assistant adjunct professor for the University of Arizona College of Law from 1988 to 1990.
Judicial career

Zapata was nominated by President Bill Clinton on March 29, 1996, to a seat vacated by Richard Bilby as Bilby died in judicial service.[1] Zapata was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on July 31, 1996 on a majority voice vote and received commission on August 3, 1996.[2]
