Anne Thompson is a federal judge for the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. She joined the court in 1979 after being nominated by President Jimmy Carter. Thompson is serving on senior status.[1]
Education
Thompson graduated from Howard University in Washington, D.C. with her bachelor's degree in 1955 and later graduated from Temple University in Philadelphia with her Master's degree in 1957 and later graduated from the Howard University School of Law in 1964.[1]

Judicial nominations and appointments
District of New Jersey
On the recommendation of U.S. Senators Bill Bradley and Harrison Williams, Thompson was nominated by President Jimmy Carter on September 28, 1979, to a new seat created by 92 Stat. 1629. Thompson was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on October 31, 1979, and received commission on November 2, 1979. Thompson served as the chief judge of the court from 1994 to 2001 before assuming senior status on June 1, 2001. Thompson was succeeded in this position by Judge Stanley Chesler.[1]
