Alan Powell (Republican Party) is a member of the Georgia House of Representatives, representing District 33. He assumed office on January 9, 2023. His current term ends on January 13, 2025.
Powell (Republican Party) ran for re-election to the Georgia House of Representatives to represent District 33. He won in the general election on November 5, 2024.
Following his unopposed victory in the November 2, 2010, general election, Powell resigned from the Democratic caucus on November 5, subsequently switching his party affiliation from Democrat to Republican. He stated, “My duty is to represent the citizens of my district the best I can. I think my voice can be better heard on the other side.”[1]
Biography
Alan Powell lives in Hartwell, Georgia.[2] Powell graduated from Hart County High School. He earned a B.S. in political science from Georgia Southwestern College. Powell's career experience includes owning Red Clay Properties.[3]

Elections for the Georgia House of Representatives took place in 2014. A primary election took place on May 20, 2014, with runoff elections taking place where necessary on July 22, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 7, 2014. Incumbent Alan T. Powell was unopposed in the Republican primary and was unchallenged in the general election.[8][9][10]

Powell ran in the 2012 election for Georgia House of Representatives District 32. Powell ran unopposed in the Republican primary on July 31, 2012. Mary Beth Focer ran unopposed in the Democratic primary. The general election took place on November 6, 2012.[11] Powell defeated Mary Beth Focer in the general election.[12]
2010
Powell ran for re-election to the 29th District seat in 2010. He had no opposition in the July 20 primary and no one filed to run against him in the general election. The general election took place on November 2, 2010.[13]

Although he was re-elected as a Democrat, Powell switched to the Republican Party following the election.

In 2008 Powell was re-elected to the Georgia House of Representatives District 29. Powell (D) ran unopposed and finished with 15,362 votes.[14] Powell raised $98,958 for his campaign fund.[15]
