Energia (Rusia: Энергия, Energiya, "Energi") adalah sebuah roket Soviet yang dirancang oleh NPO Energia untuk melayani sebagai sistem peluncuran expendable (sekali pakai) angkat berat serta pendorong untuk pesawat ruang angkasa Buran.

Sistem kontrol perusahaan pengembang utama adalah NPO "Electropribor".[3][4] Energia menggunakan empat tali-on penguat didukung oleh empat nozzle mesin pembakaran RD-170 dengan minyak tanah/lox, dan tahap inti pusat dengan 4 satu RD-0120 (11D122) mesin berbahan bakar hidrogen cair/lox.[5]

Rocket ini mempunyai dua variasi: Energia-Polyus, tes konfigurasi awal, yang dimana wahana luar angkasa Polyus digunakan sebagai tingkatan akhir untuk mencapai orbit, dan versi Energia-Buran,[6] yang dimana orbiter Buran adalah muatannya dan juga adalah sumber impuls insersi orbit.

Roket ini mempunyai kapasitas 100 Ton yang bisa diangkat ke Orbit Bumi rendah, 20 Ton bisa diangkat untuk mencapai Orbit Geostasioner, dan 32 ton bisa diangkat untuk mencapai Orbit Lunar dengan Injeksi Translunar.[2]

Roket ini hanya meluncur dua kali sebelum pembuatan roket dihentikan.[6][7] Sejak 2016, sudah ada beberapa percobaan untuk mengoperasikan kembali roket ini.

Sejarah Pengembangan

Pengerjaan sistem Energia/Buran dimulai pada tahun 1976 setelah pernyataan untuk membatalkan program roket N-1 yang gagal. Fasilitas yang dan infrastruktur digunakan untuk memanufaktur N-1 digunakan kembali untuk memanufaktur Energia (Terutama gedung penyusunan horizontal roket), sama seperti NASA yang menggunakan kembali infrastrukturnya untuk mendesain Pesawat ulang-alik yang awalnya digunakan untuk mendesain Saturn V. Energia juga menggantikan konsep "Vulkan", yang dimana merupakan sebuah desain yang berdasarkan dari keluarga roket Proton dan menggunakan bahan bakar Hipergolik, tetapi lebih besar dan kuat. Designasi "Vulkan" kemudian diberikan kepada variasi roket Energia yang dimana memiliki delapan pendorong dan banyak tingkatan.

Satelit Polyus diangkat oleh roket Energia

Roket Energia didesain untuk meluncurkan Wahana Antariksa "Buran" yang bisa dipakai kembali,[6] dan karena itu roket Energis didesain untuk mengangkut muatannya disamping roket, dan bukannya diatas roket. Desain dari sistem Energia-Buran diasumsi bahwa bisa diluncurkan tanpa orbiter Buran, sebagai Kendaraan peluncur daya angkat berat; konfigurasi ini diberi nama "Buran-T".[7] Konfigurasi ini membutuhkan penambahan tingkatan atasan untuk melakukan insersi orbit.[7] Peluncuran pertama roket Energia diluncurkan dalam konfigurasi Kendaraan peluncur daya berat, dengan satelit militer Polyus sebagai muatan, namun Polyus gagal untuk melakukan Insersi orbit secara benar.

Dikarenakan pemberhentian program Buran, roket diakhiri hanya dengan dua peluncuran, dan muatan pada peluncuran pertama tidak melakukan pendorongan terakhir secara benar. Warisan dari proyek Energia/Buran memanifestasikan dirinya sendiri paling terlihat pada keluarga roket RD-170, dan peluncur Zenit, dengan tingkatran pertama kurang lebih serupa dengan pendorong Energia.

Peluncuran pertama (Energia–Polyus)

Roket Energia pertama kali meluncur dalam rangka uji-coba pada tanggal 15 Mei 1987, dengan wahana antariksa Polyus sebagai muatannya. Sebuah bagian mesin propulsi FGB ("Kargo Blok Fungsional") yang awalnya dibangun sebagai modul Mir yang dibatalkan digabungkan menjadi tingkatan atasan yang digunakan untuk memisahkan muatan ke orbit, serupa dengan Wahana antariksa Buran dan pesawat ulang-alik melakukan insersi orbital terakhir, semenjak tingkat atasan "Buran-T" belum dikembangkan sampai tingkatan perencanaan.[7] The intended orbit was altitude 280 km (170 mi), inclination 64.6°.[12]

Uni Soviet awalnya mengumumkan bahwa peluncuran tersebut merupakan tes sub-orbital sukses dari pendorong Energia baru dengan simulator muatan, namun beberapa saat kemudian terungkap bahwa faktanya peluncuran direncanakan untuk meluncurkan Polyus ke orbit. Dua tahapan roket Energia berfungsi sesuai rencana, tetapi karena malfungsi perangkat lunak pengontrol kettingian, motor insersi polyus gagal untuk mendorong muatan ke orbit. Melainkan, Polyus memasuki atmosfer di Samudera Pasifik.[13]

Penerbangan kedua (Energia–Buran)

Penerbangan kedua, dan penerbangan pertama dimana muatan mecapai orbit sesuai dengan rencana, Diluncurkan pada tanggal 15 November 1988. Misi ini meluncurkan Buran, Wahana antariksa Uni Soviet nirawak. Pada titik apsis, wahana antariksa Buran melakukan pendorongan 66.7 m/s dan merupakan pendorongan terakhir untuk mencapai orbit akhir yaitu 251 km × 263 km.[6][14]

Pemberhentian dan pengoperasian kembali

Produksi roket Energia berakhir dengan runtuhnya Uni Soviet dan akhir dari proyek wahana antariksa Buran. Semenjak berakhirnya produksi, telah banyak rumor mengatakan tentang pengelanjutan produksi, tetapi dengan keadaan politik pada saat itu, sangat kecil kemungkinan pengelanjutan produksi. Disaat roket Energia tidak diproduksi lagi, pendorong Zenit masih digunakan sampai 2017. Empat Pendorong berbahan bakar propelan cair, yang dimana membakar Kerosene dan Oksigen, menjadi basis dari roket Zenit yang dimana menggunakan mesin propelan yang sama. Mesin tersebut adalah RD-170 yang memiliki empat ruang pembakaran. Turunannya, RD-171, digunakan di roket Zenit. Setengah-turunannya, RD-180 dengan dua ruang pembakaran, mendorong roket Atlas V buatan Lockheed Martin, sedangkan turunan mesin dengan satu ruang pembakaran, RD-191, telah digunakan untuk meluncurkan roket Naro-1 buatan Korea Selatan (Sebagai variasi pengurangan-dorongan dinamakan RD-151) dan roket Angara buatan Rusia. Mesin roket RD-181, yang dibuat berdasarkan mesin roket RD-191, digunakan oleh roket Antares.[15]

Pada bulan Agustus 2016, rencana diumumkan untuk mengembangkan Kendaraan peluncur daya angkat super berat dari sisa-sisa komponen Energia ketimbang mendorong proyek roket Angara A5V yang kurang kuat.[16] Ini akan memungkinkan Rusia untuk meluncurkan misi mendirikan sebuah Koloni Bulan permanen dengan logistik yang lebih sederhana, dengan hanya meluncurkan satu atau dua roket super berat berbobot 60-160-ton ketimbang empat Angara A5V berbobot 40-ton menggambarkan rangkaian peluncuran cepat dan beberapa pertemuan di orbit[17]

Tiga desain varian utama telah dikonseptualisasikan setelah konfigurasi awal, tiap varian memiliki kapasitas muatan yang berbeda-beda.

Energia M

Roket Energia M adalah konfigurasi desain dari awal 1990-an, dan paling kecil diantara tiga varian. Jumlah dari pendorong Zenit dikurangi dari empat ke dua, dan ketimbang empat RD-0120, roket ini hanya memiliki satu RD-0120. Roket ini didesain untuk menggantikan roket Proton, tapi kalah dalam kompetisi tahun 1993 kepada roket Angara.[18][butuh rujukan]

Sebuah prototipe non-fungsional ("tes struktural roket") dari Energia M yang masih utuh terlihat diabaikan di Baikonur Cosmodrome.[19]

Energia II (Uragan)

Energia II, dinamakan Uragan (bahasa Rusia: Ураган, Hurikan), adalah desain roket yang diusulkan di akhir 1980-an[20] yang bisa digunakan kembalin sepenuhnya dengan kemampuan untuk mendarat di landasan pacu konvensional. Tidak seperti Energia-Buran, yang direncanakan untuk tidak sepenuhnya bisa digunakan kembali (seperti Pesawat ulang-alik AS), konsep Uragan adalah untuk menggunakan kembali semua elemen Buran/Energia, seperti konsep Pesawat ulang-alik AS orbiter yang sepenuhnya bisa digunakan kembali.[21] Inti Energia II seperti yang diusulkan akan memiliki kemampuan untuk memasuki kembali atmosfer Bumi dan terbang melayang untuk pendarantan.

Vulkan–Hercules

Konsep desain yang tidak-pernah-dibangun terakhir[per kapan?] dan juga paling besar. Dengan delapan pendorong Zenit dan Energia-M sebagai tingkat atasan, konfigurasi roket "Vulkan" (yang dimana adalah nama yang sama dari roket daya angkat Soviet lain yang dibatalkan beberapa tahun sebelumya) atau "Hercules" (yang dimana adalah nama yang sama didesignasikan kepada roket N-1[butuh rujukan]) awalnya diproyeksikan untuk bisa membawa 175 ton muatan ke orbit.

Pengembangan roket pengangkut "Vulcan" dan perbaikan launch pad "Energia" untuk peluncuran berlangsung dari 1990-1993. Tapi kemudian dalam pengerjaan proyek ini dibatalkan karena kurangnya dana dan runtuhnya Uni Soviet.[22]
